Wildschönau – Exciting and Relaxed

This region is a fantastic holiday destination when it comes to exciting winter fun, summer holidays, and is a delightful family friendly holiday destination at a fair price range. Enjoy a delightful holiday in Tyrol's Kitzbühel Alps. This beautiful holiday region, the picturesque Wildschönau valley, is situated at about 1,000 metres above sea-level on the western side of the Kitzbühel Alps. This wonderful high-alpine valley and the municipality with the same name ensures guests a memorable holiday in this idyllic alpine setting. Enjoy the charming villages, the mountain landscape, the rustic traditional farmhouses, the "Alm" alpine huts up the mountains, the lush green alpine meadows, and so much more here in this stunning Tyrolean holiday region.

Travelling from the direction of the Brixental valley or the Inntal valley, the first holiday village you will encounter is the charming village of Niderau. As you make your way further into the Wildschönau valley, you will come across the villages of Oberau, Auffach and Thierbach, which all have their own endearing characteristics. The Schatzbergbahn ski lifts are based in Auffach, and during winter, this takes you directly into the spectacular Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski resort. This resort is a popular ski resort in the Tyrolean Unterland region, especially with the locals, due to the choice of 109 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes, 47 modern ski lifts, charming rustic alpine huts, and all the great fun to be had in this picturesque setting. Winter in the Wildschönau has many more exciting activities on offer besides alpine skiing. Explore the 40 kilometres of winter walking trails leading you through the delightful winter landscape. Alternatively, you can glide through the snow and get to know the region on cross-country skis along the 50 kilometres of tracks. A memorable activity and exciting thrill suited for the entire family is tobogganing on one, or even all of the three toboggan tracks in our region. Ski mountaineering is a real challenge, and with the highest mountain Große Beil (2,309 m) is perfectly suited for all active holiday makers to explore the delightful winter landscape while conquering this mountain peak on their skis.

This stunning peak is not only a challenge to conquer when it is covered in snow, it is also a fantastic destination for your hiking trip. The Wildschönau offers 300 kilometres of well-maintained hiking trails, which vary in difficulty and range from 828 metres all the way to 2,309 metres above sea-level. Explore the picturesque Kitzbühel Alps and take some time to rest and enjoy a delightful traditional snack, a "Jause", at some of the 46 alpine pastures being farmed in our region. Guided hikes are available in many degrees of difficulty throughout the hiking season. The Schatzberg- and Markbach gondolas are available during summer to allow all guests to start their hikes at an elevated position and enjoy the spectacular views in summer as well.

The old silver mine Lehenlahn is accessible to all guests interested in experiencing the mine shafts from medieval times. The Wildschönau has two exceptional highlights for all art and culture enthusiasts as well. Walk along the Franziskus-path and marvel at the spectacular bronze-statues along the way, and the sculpture park at the Markbachjoch is also very impressive. The 30 unique sculptures created by international artists are set up on the shores of the lake. The charming Wildschönau valley is renowned as a very musical valley and even commonly referred to as the "valley of music". This is partly due to there being a secondary school focused on music, many choirs, music groups, traditional brass bands, and also due to the wonderful traditional music events, which bring the locals and music enthusiasts from far and wide together.
