Zillertal Arena – Zell and Gerlos

Gerlos is situated at 1.300 metres above sea-level and is one of the highest villages in the Zillertal. The snow guarantee in Zell and Gerlos ensures fantastic days spent in the snow in the largest ski resort in the region, the Zillertal Arena. Explore the 143 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes with 51 modern ski lifts, and ski all the way up at 2,500 and then back down to 1,300 metres above sea-level from December until Easter. In addition to this spectacular home-ski resort, the Hintertux glacier is available nearby, offering the possibility to ski and snowboard throughout the entire year, even during summer. Carve down the slopes, enjoy rustic alpine huts, have some fun in snow-bars, and delight at a memorable winter holiday. Another highlight is a day spent tobogganing on one of the 6 toboggan tracks, some of which are even flood-lit.

For all active holiday makers who prefer cross-country skiing, many exciting route options are available. One of the highlights for cross-country skiers is the high-alpine cross-country ski track at the Königsleitenspitze mountain and in Hochkrimml. This region delights all visitors during winter, and not only while on skis. The picturesque winter landscape is suited superbly for winter walks and hikes through the spectacular alpine landscape of the villages Zell, Gerlos, Wald, Königsleiten and Krimml. Another way to enjoy this winter wonderland is by embarking on a challenging ski touring trip through the fresh snow in this marvellous setting.

This region is just as exciting during the warm months of the year. The Zillertal Arena offers a spectacular mountain landscape waiting to be explored, and the nature park Zillertal Alps is perfectly suited for all hikers and mountain bikers. Enjoy the 400 kilometres of hiking paths and 325 kilometres of biking tracks taking you through the Tyrolean Zillertal all the way to the Pinzgau region of Salzburg. Take in the spectacular views and conquer this delightful region on two wheels. Hiking in this beautiful alpine region is a true joy for people of all ages and fitness levels. With so many impressive destinations to be explored, such as the highest waterfalls in all of Europe, the Krimml waterfalls, the possibilities are seemingly endless. In addition to fantastic opportunities for active guests, Zell-Gerlos is renowned as one of Tyrol's most premier family holiday regions with fantastic children's entertainment programmes and offers for youths ranging from biking, climbing to canyoning. On hot summer days, the leisure centre in Zell is the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the swimming pool, as well as many further possibilities. For a thrilling ride, try the Arena Coaster, the first alpine rollercoaster in the Zillertal, or the Riverbug in the Ziller river, the newest wild water adventure to be enjoyed.

Zell am Ziller is this regions political and agricultural centre and is a thriving town with farmer's markets, concerts, parties, and après ski bars. The relaxed pace of Gerlos offers a delightful holiday experience in one of the many beautiful hamlets in the valley or partway up the mountains from the Durlaßboden reservoir lake all the way to the border to Salzburg. One of the most famous events is without a doubt the exciting Gauderfest, which takes place in early May and is one of the oldest traditional celebrations in all of Tyrol. The locals celebrate the first pouring of the Gauderbock specialty beer, which includes fun "Ranggler" wrestling games and a parade. The charming Zillertalbahn locomotive train passes and stops in Zell as well, allowing you to travel through the Zillertal in style.
