Silberregion Karwendel

The imposing mountain peaks of the Karwendel mountain range tower above one of the most diverse holiday regions to be found in Austria. The delightful and exciting Silberregion Karwendel includes the towns of Buch, Gallzein, Jenbach, Kolsass, Kolsassberg, Schwaz, Stans, Terfens, Vomp, Weer and Weerberg. The region stretches from the lush wide valley of the Unterinntal, from Kolsass to Jenbach, and then all the way to the forests of the Tuxer Voralpen. The interesting cultural and historical aspects are just as charming as the unique landscape of this region. The city of Schwaz established itself as a prosperous silver-mining town and is still the capital city of this region.

Enjoy the delightful old-town of the city with historical monasteries, the largest Gothic church in Tyrol, the show-silver mine, and numerous art galleries allowing a holiday rich in cultural value.

During summer this region is a true gem for all hikers and mountain bikers due to the exceptional natural surroundings. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the nature park Karwendel with the impressive mountain peaks and explore to your heart's content. The nature park is sparsely populated ensuring an unspoilt nature experience for all visitors, allowing your head to clear in this beautiful natural setting. The Engalm in the Risstal valley is one of the highlights to enjoy in this region. The quaint village to be found nestled deep in the high alpine valley has endured for centuries by implementing traditional alpine farming methods. To the south of the river Inn, guests can explore a very different type of alpine landscape. The lush meadows proudly show off their alpine roses and the forests of the Tuxer Voralpe mountain range entice with the lovely scent of pine wood. On hot summer days, the delightful swimming pools in Schwaz, Jenbach, and Stans offer some fun and excitement with entertaining playgrounds and games to enjoy. A fantastic alternative to spending the day at the swimming pools, is visiting the swimming lake Weißlahn in Terfens for a refreshing dip in the cool water.

All winter sports enthusiasts can explore the three lovely ski fields, which also include two practice lifts for novices and children. Another exciting sport to be enjoyed during winter here is ski mountaineering. Many routes are available in the Silberregion Karwendel, including the tour up to the Große Gilfert near Weerberg. The family-friendly ski resorts Kellerjoch, Stans and Kolsassberg offer a delightful destination for a day in the snow with the entire family, as well as the Schwannerlift and the Hüttegglift, which are suited perfectly for children and novices, yet still include slopes suited for advanced skiers and snowboarders. This region is located centrally within the Tyrolean Alps, ensuring seemingly endless options for ski resorts suiting your personal preference. One of the most exciting activities to be enjoyed by the entire family is tobogganing. Enjoy the 17 different toboggan tracks in this region such as the 3 km track in Vomp, which is flood-lit until midnight. Another great way to explore this beautiful region during winter is by going for a winter hike or snow-shoe hike.
